About CellarPals

CellarPals is made by one person. I am Avery, and I live in Cyprus. I hold WSET Level 3 in Wines, plus Level 2 in Spirits and Beer, and I am working through the Diploma. I teach and write about wine alongside building this.

I spent thirty years running technology for hospitality and resort operators, and I have spent almost as long collecting wine disorganised enough to need a system for it.

When you write to support, I am the one who answers.

It started as a spreadsheet. Ninety three bottles, a column for where each one was stored, another for what I paid, and a third that never got updated.

The apps I tried either treated a cellar as warehouse stock or as a social feed. I wanted something that just held an accurate picture of what I own, where it is, and when to open it. So I built that, and then added the parts I kept wishing for. A label you can scan. A proper place to record a tasting. A menu you can print for a dinner.

CellarPals catalogues a drinks collection. You add a bottle by photographing its label, place it on a map of your actual racks, shelves and bins, and it tells you what is ready to drink and what is worth waiting for. It runs on the web, iPhone and Android, with the same cellar on all three.

The part that makes it different from most of the category is unglamorous: it handles wine and spirits together. Nearly every other tool in this space is wine-only, which is fine until half your shelf is whisky and there is nowhere to put it.

CellarPals is built and run from Cyprus. Support, billing and data questions all reach the same person.

Your cellar is yours: if a subscription lapses the account goes read-only, and nothing is deleted.

Three commitments, chosen because they are the ones that are easy to promise and awkward to keep.

• Your cellar leaves whenever you want it to. Export is a full export, in three formats, including one that imports cleanly back into CellarTracker. The exit was built before it was needed. A collection you cannot take with you is not really yours.
• If you stop paying, nothing is deleted. The cellar goes read-only and waits. Your records are not leverage.
• No selling your data, and no selling you wine. There is no marketplace here and no commission on anything you pour. The subscription is the whole business model, which is why the recommendations only ever point at bottles you already own.

There is also a page on responsible enjoyment, because an app that makes it easier to accumulate alcohol should be willing to say something about drinking it.

Support reaches me directly and is the fastest route for anything wrong, missing or confusing. If something on the comparison pages has gone out of date, that is the place to say so and I will correct it.
